As you might have already guessed, Positano doesn’t have wireless connections. So I’ve been keeping up to date with my posts, just putting them together as one big blog from our Positano excursions!
Travel me Sideways (Oct 3rd 2010)
Ok this morning was time for us to unfortunately shed our Roman ways for Napalatoean/Positano ways. We had an amazing time in Rome. My top 10 roman things are as follows:
1-Italian men (you didn’t actually expect me to say anything else as numero Uno did you?) lol part of this is their innate hotness the other part is their love for American women. It’s not once that we leave the house without looks, beeps, and ciao Bella’s. So refreshing when coming from Miami that if your not 5’9 100lbs with fake tatas that you receive attention.
2-Their special way of life- enjoying each and every breath, even if it’s your last because you habitually smoke ciggs hehe
3- their love for God and love for each other. If Americans had ½ this faith the Northern Continent would be a much greater place. They have such a reverence for their God, their churches, their futbol, their food, their coffee, and their vino and of course US!! They have this amazing way of showing their appreciation for each other, everyone around them and the environment around them as well!! Its awesome and one of the things I hope to truly bring back with me to the states.
4- Polite-ness. Every push in a crowded espresso bar, every nudge at the train station is followed by an “excusi” it’s amazing. The little Italian children say Prego and grazie. So refreshing! Manners it so under-rated in the states!! We politely asked this gentleman this morning about where to find a taxi. He didn’t understand English, however, he ended up toteing our bags all the way to the intersection and hailing us a cab- followed by two kisses and many gratizes on our part!!!
Seriously what man in the states is going to haul 80lb bags for strange foreign girls? Well I guess it’s our innate US hotness radiating thru ha-ha
5- I love the superstitious nature of the Romans. They believed so many weird wacky things, it reminds me of myself and my game day traditions etc. So fun!
6- their cobblestone roads. Although this isn’t on my feet’s top ten list, I love them. They make me feel like I’m walking next to D'vinci or Michealego. I feel empowered and strong walking along roads paved by my ancestors and their ancestors! Plus I like the sound it makes with heels ;) ha-ha
7- Coloseeum at night! Seriously doesn’t the picture say enough!!
8- Gelato- this should truly have been higher on the list, however, I got prematurely excited with the first 7 hahaha. Seriously does it get any better than sweet and cold and virtually fat free, served by a hot ass man with the bone structure of a gladiator and the accent to match! PERFECTO
9- Traffic rules- or lack there of. It seems that although there is massive chaos on the streets, no one is ever actually injured or hit or bumped. Believe me if we made it thru Rome without being hit sober or not with a car or a vespa it’s a pretty safe place to be
10- PROSUITO de Parma! I might actually look like aged meat when I return.. hahaha partially because of the massive amount of prosciutto I eat- on bread, alone, with cheese, with out and reason or excuse- and secondly because I eat so much I forget to drink- DE-HYDRATO muy no bene!!!!
11- THANKS OBAMA FOR THE TERRORIST ALERT WHEN I’M ON ITALIAN GET AWAY another reason I love you!
We arrived on the 3rd to Positino. We had to take a taxi to Roma termini (the train station) then take another train from Rome to Naples, and then take another train from Naples to Sorrento and then catch the Sita but from Sorrento to Positino. PHEW it was honestly exhausting hauling our bags up and down and in and out but we made it. We met two very sweet Americans Eli and Charmain from San Francisco. Sweet older couple and we traveled from Naples to Positano with them. The Sita bus along the Almafi coast left no surprises. It was windy and twisted and HIGH as everyone talked about! It was amazing, so crazy the views. Breath taking, either from sheer fright of the trip or from beauty. I believe it to be a slight mix of both!!!
We of course miss our stop off the bus, go too far and have to lug ourselves and our bag up the hill to the taxi station. Luckily we are able to meet Claudio, from Sorrento, who was in LOVE with us hahah He gratefully took us in his Mercedes Benz taxi from the taxi station to the hotel. The hotel of Mrs. Fitch’s family is amazing. Cosa Soriano. Amazing. Of course since this town is completely vertical we had to hike the bags UP UP AND AWAY again!! OYE thank goodness I eat a lot of cheese and prosciutto or I’d be so think from all this hiking and lugging of baggage ;)
We get settled in, meet Pasqual and his mother “nonna”. Sweetest kindest little Italian ever! We set out for the beach! We discovered at this point that the “5min walk” really encompassed a 500step walk down to the beach. I’m going to have Italian gluts by my return to America hahaha
We get down to the beach and again, its breathtaking. Maybe it was from the step?? ;) There is no sand, all pebbles!! Super pretty but super rough on our delicate Americana feet! OUCHIE
After a relaxing day at the beach we got dressed and headed to dinner! We ate at the fabulous Café Positano. D-licious!! Our waiter took a fondness to us Bella’s and gave us a bottle of wine FREE!! Seriously does that happen in Florida! No way. We get to many aye mama como estas? Ha-ha
Needless to say, the couple next to us saw our gracious gift. The man, from Ireland, goes to the waiter, well, where is our complimentary gift and we all start cracking up. He goes, well sir, your not quite as Bella. Apparently it pays to be beautiful in Italy !!
A bottle and a half later we’re off back to the hotel!!
Buona Note!
Day 2 in Positano.
We head out for some shopping. We bump into this shop by no other than Giovanni! He hand makes leather shoes. Of course Carly and I couldn’t’ pass this up! A little Italian man making our handmade Italian shoes! Que Linda!!!! We order our shoes and cont on our shopping ventures. On our way up the hill of Positano we pass our taxi station. We needed to make arrangements for our trip back to Florence so we popped in. There were two Italian men relaxing watching the Ryder up while eating desserts and a sandwich. They made us sit and made us eat this “ROMAN CAKE” omg delicious. It was an upgraded version of cheesecake and it was delicious.
The only bad thing was I made me sick climbing back up the 500 steps from the beach to our Positano Casa. BLECK I guess I’ll stick to meet and cheese
On the beach we met two sweet gentlemen from Argentina. It was an adventure getting into the water for Carly and I and I think they were fairly entertained!! Hahaha A-it was freezing B- the pebbles hurt and C-there was massive waves.
Next we meet Reid from Memphis, cute guy with a sweet southern accent. We were telling the argentines that we lost our plug converter. And he pipes in “I’ve got a plug for you” hahahaah I look at like Carly like “oh yea?” this could get interesting hahaha
But no seriously he gave us an adapter. (Thank goodness or me and Carly would look like poodles all over Florence, Munich, Cinque Terre and Milan. And that just wasn’t an option.
Ps the Weather here is amazing. Warm during the day and cool at night. It’s perfecto
We did some more shopping bough some Wine, salami, parmesan cheese, some mystery amazing softer cheese and roasted peppers, played some Andrea Bochelli and sat on our terrace and enjoyed being “Italians” for this short short time!!!
Buona note!!!
Day three Positano
We were schedule to go to Capri this morning at 9am but Laura, our guide texted us this am at 7 that the weather would not permit us to go. IT was awful out, super super choppy and cloudy and sprinkling all day. We decided to go shopping for the day. Carly found sunglasses that I think could quite possibly have been made directly for her face and her face alone. They were perfect. I think Mr Bvlgari had Carly’s face in mind when these were created. Seriously perfecto! Next we sent out a package to home of stuff that we had purchased during out travels so far! We bumped into Reid while shopping- all of a sudden I herd “Kristin” and it scared the shit out of me! I was like ahhh people here know my name??!?!
We headed down for some fabulous lunch and hung out for 4 hours just chatting drink cappuccinos and wine chatting with people from around the world. We met Katrina and Matt from Arizona, an ICU nurse from Richmond Va and another sweet woman from Germany. Reid met up with us for a drink and some lunch! Carly went “fishing” and caught a tiny lil Italian pesca!
Back to the hotel for nails and schoolwork for me. I’ve been keeping up with my reading for my pathaophysiology class and the Health care enterprise class is kicking my ass! It’s really hard to keep up with it with no Internet!
Bon appétit off to dinner!!
October 5th 2010
Vincenzo, Vincenzo, Vincenzo
For our last night in Positino we decided to go to the cutest little ristorante down and around the hill called Cucina De Vincenzo. It was a darling little place that made you feel you were in someone’s house being served fabulous food! There were pots hanging from the ceiling and a coal fire for the pizza. Molto bene! We kinda sorta went over the edge last night food/drink wise. I mean we figured that since it was our last night, might as well celebrate right? EXACTLY!
We got lobster, mini calzone appetizers, calamari with small potatoes and onions, pasta with fungi and truffles, bread and wine ,wine &, wine!
Seriously I’m not quite sure what they put in that stuff but it’s absolutely invigoratingly good! It’s so smooth and gentle on the way down that you cant help but to drink another liter. We ate drank and were merry!
Southern Reid met up with up for drinks. We ended up closing down Vincenzo’s cuccina! Go figure. The American girls plus one closed down the Ristorante de Vincenzo. CHECK!
I was fairly toasted as you may have guessed, it’s my new thing in italy I’m a complete lush! I can’t handle, nor do I like red wine in the states, However, this miracle juice red wine here calls my name. I have some for breakfast lunch and dinner. I am going to look like a grape when I return. Seriously though this is amazing!!!
We headed back up to the room, relaxed, and hit the hay!
October 6th 2010
We awake for our last few hours in Positano, showered, packed- and by packed I mean I shoved my clothes in bundles into my messy suitcase, sat on it, and zipped!
Carly’s bag on the other hand looks like elves hand rolled every article of her clothes, color coordinated them and put them in categorical order as to when she should wear them according to the weather of our destination.
We met Claudio, our driver, at his benz and made him haul our bags down the steps of Cosa Soriano. That’s what men and muscles are for right?
Unfortunately for Claudio he had a bad case of psoriasis on his hands. BLECK but it didn’t hinder him carrying our luggage down the steps.
We kissed “nonna” and Mina good-bye twice and headed on our way!
To the train we go we’ve made it through another small part of our journey
Ciao
